This is a huge mistake companies make. They think since they have created high quality product, that’s enough for them. But what they don’t realize is that the customer will only get to the product once the packaging is approved. And how is that possible? When you have used packaging material that is of high quality. Using material that is rough or below standards is simply sending out a message that your product may be of the same quality. Which you know is not true. But the customer doesn’t know and won’t find out because you made the biggest mistake of using substandard packaging material that made him think that your product will also be of poor quality. Don’t make this huge mistake.
Another thing that you forget is buying material that is sturdy and durable. You see, there are times when your product is fragile. It won’t retain its shape if you are not careful. It can break or crack if you do not handle the product with care. Now this is you who we are talking about. Think about your product being in a packaging that won’t be able to look after the product carefully. Think about all the procedures it has to go through. The shipping, transportation and storage for instance. In times like these, the packaging can sometimes be mishandled, and if the material isn’t durable enough, the product will just break. And even if the product is not fragile, it still needs durable material packaging. Because once a product breaks, it will be returned. This is only going to cost you in the end; it’s going to cost you the making of the product as well as the customer who bought it. In fact, world of mouth is one of the most powerful ways to convey messages. If the customer bad mouths your product because it received the item broken, there you go, you are losing more people who could have been your future customers.
No one is going for a custom box design that is simply dull and unappealing. You need to add some life into your packaging design. Make it interesting, make it exciting; make it in a way that it evokes emotions and feelings of the customer. A dull design will never make the customer even look at your packaging/product. You hardly get a few seconds to grab the attention of the customer on a shelf packed with other similar items. And since you are failing to grab the attention, the customers aren’t noticing you are there and will not buy your product. You are losing sales and customers at the same time. Thus, you need to work hard on your design and make it appealing and exciting.
In an attempt to make the design interesting, sometimes manufacturer can go overboard with the whole thing. Sometimes you just through in a lot of images, colors and patterns which makes the whole thing a mishmash. If your brand represents such a mayhem then its fine but if not, then you are making the biggest mistake of your life. You add in a font people won’t be able to read. You just add in too many colors that can give people a headache. There is just too much going on. The packaging is so dizzy like that customers will want to look at something else immediately to avoid a headache. This is not a good sign for your packaging. You are simply giving people a reason to walk away from your product and giving others a chance to surpass you.
